Plums opened the 2002 season with a nine inning affair in the fair city of Fairfax, MN.  Although the Boys of Plums outhit the Cardinals (11 total Plums hits), Fairfax stole the victory by a count of 3-1.  Bruiser Grandits took the complete-game loss for Plums, who left Fairfax with heavy hearts and empty gas tanks.

Plum's Baseball announced the signing of their first new addition to the 2002 roster: the Invisible Man.  "Man," as he prefers to be called, hit .337 at AAA Syracuse (Orioles) last season and looks to fill a gap for Plum's in left field this season.

The Boys of Summer and Plum's lost their second round playoff game tonight to Stockmen's Irish 3-2. Stockmen's jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Plum's fought back to close the game, as Stockmen's threw out Plum's Mike Scholl at the plate to end the game. Plum's starter Bruce 'Bruiser' Grandits went the distance in another stellar performance for Plum's. Plum's will play the loser of Marv's Mud Ducks and the Rosetown A's tomorrow night at Concordia College at 6pm.

Plum's won its single-elimination round playoff game versus Woodbury Tuesday night by a score of 7-6. Though Woodbury provided a scare, taking a 5-4 lead in the 5th, Plum's came fighting back, starting with a leadoff bomb from Dan 'Marvin' Walsh in the bottom of the inning. Plum's went on to score 2 more in the inning, and held on for the triumph. Dave Schlundt was 3-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run while Mark Fisher was 2-3 with 2 RBIs. Andy Dooley picked up the win, throwing a complete game six-hitter while striking out seven. Plum's continues its playoff quest against Stockmen's Irish Wednesday at 8pm in South St. Paul.

From D. Weinke:
'We (Plum's) got the #8 seed and we will be playing the Lakeville/Woodbury winner tomorrow night, 7/31 at 6:00pm at St. Thomas. If we win that game we are in the double elimination tournament and we would play Stockmen's at 8:00pm at McGuire field on Wednesday. Looking forward to seeing everyone for the playoff run.'

Liberty/O'Gara's won the league title Saturday.

7/27/01
Plum's continued its newly found dominance of the St. Paul Amateur League with a win over the hapless A's of Lakeville by a count of 8-0 tonight. The Plum's offensive onslaught was led by Mark Fisher (2 hits), Jason Schlundt (2 RBIs), and Nick Foster and Mike Scholl (2 runs each). The highlight, however, came in the form of Plum's 'Living Legend' Jim Cummings. The rubber-armed one came out of a three year self-imposed retirement to pitch a complete game four-hit shutout while striking out six. Thus, Plum's finishes the year 8-8 in league play. Next up for Team Plum's: playoffs. Stay tuned for the playoff schedule...

7/26/01
Plum's broke out of its recent slump with a convincing 5-2 win tonight versus the Tri-City Shark. Apparently there is only one shark in Tri-City (in comparison to the bounty of sharks found elsewhere in Minnesota). Behind the pitching of starter Bruce "Bruiser" Grandits, the bats of Plum's came alive scoring five (while leaving the bases loaded twice) and knocking the Tri-City starter from the game early. Grandits has come through in big games for Plum's this year, with the effort against Tri-City echoing his winning performance versus Liberty/O'Gara's earlier this season. Not to be outdone, David Schlundt picked up the save, striking out two in the seventh. Plum's returns to action Friday at Lakeville.

7/24/01
The offensive woes continued for Team Plum's as they fell tonight to White Bear Lake 7-3. Short on hits and runs, Plum's was unable to overcome the timely hitting and fielding of the WBL squad. Third baseman Mike Scholl pitched well enough to win (though he didn't) for Plum's, going the distance and striking out five in his pitching debut. Pitching depth is so limited that legendary Plum's fireballer Jim Cummings came out of retirement as the emergency reliever for the game. Plum's has also put calls in to Ogie Oglethorp and Tim 'Dr. Hook' McCracken in case they are needed Thursday versus Tri-City.

7/22/01
According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Plum's fell Sunday to the Merchants O' The East Side 11 runs to 4. More information will follow as it becomes available.

The boys of Plum's took a loss tonight to the squaking Marv's Mud Ducks by a count of 11-6 in a game played at Midway Stadium. A close game through three innings, the Mud Ducks broke it open in the fourth with eight runs, including a grand slam. Plum's outhit Marv's but wasn't able to capitalize on some key opportunities. Plum's starter Bruce "Bruiser" Grandits took the loss as Plum's stayed near the middle of the pack in the competitive St. Paul Amateur League.
